about Art is Alive

April 4th - 5th 2008 at the Canton Museum of Art

ART IS ALIVE The Dream Continues April 4 & 5 2008

The irrepressible spirit of Stark County's art community will be on view once again when ART IS ALIVE bursts on the scene at the Cultural Center for the Arts on Friday, April 4 and Saturday, April 5 2008. More than 40 local artists will display their work, musicians and dancers will perform, local restaurants will serve up their tasty fare and thousands will flock to Canton's most outrageously fun and entertaining art event.
ART IS ALIVE has been a can't miss show for over 15 years. In 1992, inspired by an art and music festival call POP/Cult, first held in 1989, Deloris Angeli found space for a one night art show. Local artists displayed their "wild" artwork and local musicians played thoughout the evening. the show got bigger each year, eventually moving to the McKinley Center in downtown Canton, and then, in 2003, with the support of the Canton Museum of Art, to the Cultural Center.
Deloris relinquished the reins of ART IS ALIVE after 2006's show but Robin Kratzer of Quonset Hut and Robb Hyde from the Canton Museum of Art couldn't let it die. Together, they collaborated with Deloris and Michael Devine, the originator of POP/CULT to keep the Beat Going On. Deloris and Michael were special guests of the 2007 show. Michael is know by many as Zombo, the frontman for the King Dapper Combo, a local sensation in the 90s and now somewhat official house band of Cedar Point's annual Halloweekends. Devine spends much of his time DJing, and returned triumphantly to DJ and host the event which included music and the spoken word.
Among the artists participating in 2007 were: Michael Andlinger, Dylan Atkinson, Lisa Ayers, Robert Baker, Teri Barnes, KC Carter, Marcia Colelli, J.W. Cooper, Heather Dressler, Angela Eberhart, Steve Ehret, Kris Halter, Donna Ischo, Cherry Jarret, Dan Jone, Laura Kolinski-Schultz, Bili Kribbs, Ted Lawson, Lynn Lewis, Wendy Lewis, Jamielle Lindsey, Paula Mastroianni, Joe Martino, Arlene Mizeres, Erin Mulligan, Pam Neff, David Poole, Mieze Riedel, Dan Sayre, Bill Shearrow, Denny Shirer, Damian Smith, Kati Smith, Hurshel Smith, Doreen St. John, Anna Sutton, Fredlee Votow, Kristine Wyler, Isable Zaldivar, Kent State Ceramics, and Mckinely High School Photography.
