ART IS ALIVE ... KIMONO MY HOUSE April 3 & 4
The irrepressible spirit of Stark County's art community is on view once again when ART IS ALIVE ... KIMONO MY HOUSE bursts on the scene at the Cultural Center for the Arts on Friday and Saturday, April 3 and 4, 2009. More than 40 local artists will display their work, musicians and dancers will perform, local restaurants will serve up their tasty fare and thousands will flock to Canton's most outrageously fun and entertaining art event.
ART IS ALIVE ... KIMONO MY HOUSE is scheduled for Friday from 5:00 to 10:00 PM and Saturday from 12:00 to 5:00 PM. Admission is just $1.99
In 1992, inspired by Michael Devine's art and music festival called POP/CULT first held in 1989, Deloris Angeli found space for a one night art show. Local artists displayed their wild artwork and local musicians played throughout the evening. The show got bigger each year eventually moving to the McKinley Center in downtown Canton, and then in 2003, with the support of the Canton Museum of Art, to the Cultural Center.
Deloris relinquished the reins of ART IS ALIVE after the 2006 year's show but Robin Kratzer of Quonset Hut and Robb Hyde from the Canton Museum of Art couldn't let it die. More than 3,000 people attended, sales were in excess of $40,000.00, and the community support was amazing! This year's event will be even more exciting, we will be a part of the April First Friday in Downtown Canton and a kickoff for the IlluminArts Festival (formerly the Stark Arts Festival), 2 weeks of art activities through the county coordinated by the Stark Arts Coming Together (ACT).
